I am so glad she came out with a book, as I was saving all of the "Art in the Morning" Emails on my computer and am the proud owner of "Cherry Season", and she unintentionally (or is it intentional?) makes it difficult not to buy, buy, buy...The cover photo reminds me of my father (who passed away in 2010 at the age of almost 91), who used a similar coffee mug and cereal bowl for his breakfast every morning for years and years. I love Kit's "view" of what she paints and each painting has special meaning for her, delightfully expressed in her descriptions. I purchased three of these books, two for gifts. Hopefully, Kit has another book in the making...Product details

This book is a pathway into the heart of artist Kit Night. What fun to enter her world of painting and follow her thoughts on life and art for a year. As an art student this is a wonderful opportunity for me to study her well thought out compositions, her amazing interplay of highlights and shadows, as well as marvel at her unique use of color and value. Kit turns everyday objects into things of beauty.
I was so happy to get this compilation of Kit Night's "Art in the Morning" series. I was already a big fan of her work & the weekly "Art in the Morning" e-mails. Now I am a bigger fan! I spent a lovely Saturday morning cuddled up in my favorite chair with my latte & this book. Not only is the art wonderful, but the story that goes with each painting is like taking a little vacation with every page. I recommend it to anyone who loves to see the extraordinary in the ordinary of every day life!
This selection of Night's impressions of daily objects and their significant role in daily life will charm you. It may cause some tears as you remember your own experiences with her subjects. She'll get you to thinking about the majesty of, say, three over-confident peaches, leftover lipsticks, the Stanley yellow-handled stubby screw driver. Her art brings life to you and causes you to ponder the value of common experience.
Beautiful book with lots of inspiration!...Love her luscious loose strokes, beautiful reflective color and use of light & shadows. Fun painting subjects! I like to leave her book out on my coffee table for everyone to pick up & enjoy. She leaves a lot to the imagination with her painterly images; you can get lost in her fresh, spontaneous paintings...They are simply lovely. Her reflections and writings are poetic & thought provoking. She invites you to appreciate all the beauty that's right in front of us. ~Love this book!
Kit Knight has produced a book that takes you to places that you look at without really seeing. To see her vision of a cup with a teabag suspended on a spoon is to feel a sense of peace that a casual observer would never see. It comes alive. Her book is filled with her expressions of not only her visual world but also her written thoughts that accompany each painting as well as comments from her readers on her website [...] The paintings cover a year of her web site and are very nicely reproduced. Kit Night has a special way of interpreting the world through her paintings and it is a joy to have this "Art in the Morning" compilation, 52 paintings from her series of small works meant to bring art on a regular basis into people's lives through weekly emails. Her paintings are luminous-- vibrant and full of color. She can make a hammer, an oil can, a cup of cherries, a still life with tomatoes--anything really-- glow and feel alive. The artwork comes across well on full page reprints; on the facing page are Kit's comments on the painting subject, memories or associations, experience of painting-- always something fun and interesting to read. Adding to the idea that art is to be shared are comments from some "Art in the Morning" recipients.
It's a wonderful book to return to again and again--sometimes for inspiration in my own artwork and sometimes for the simple joy of seeing the world through Kit's eyes.
